“Free Program” Update Notifier

By Jason Faulkner - 7/24/2008 9:48 AM

Everyone likes free programs. Odds are you are probably running at least one on your computer right now. If so, keeping many of them on the latest version requires you to occasionally go check each application’s web site for an update or you can use my earlier tip of subscribing to the RSS feed. Well an even easier way is to simply use AppSnap.

From AppSnap’s web site:

It automatically figures out the latest version, downloads the installer and then installs the software in one seamless step.

An interesting point the web site brings up is Windows does not have a package manager offered by most Linux distributions to automatically notify you of updates, so I imagine this is the application’s overall goal.

AppSnap, at the time of this writing covers 361 free programs: from 7-Zip to ZuluPad (check out the Applications link).
